Smartphones are an essential part of daily life, but like all electronic devices, they have a limited service life. Among phone components, lithium-ion batteries are undoubtedly the part whose performance declines the most over time.
1. The Battery Drains Very Quickly
If you unplug your phone at 100% in the morning but its charge drops to around 20% before noon, this is one of the clearest signs.
2. Unexpected Shutdowns
Does your phone suddenly switch off while the battery indicator still shows 30% or 40%? As battery cells age, they may no longer be able to meet the device’s instantaneous power demands.
3. Excessive Heat
If the back of your phone becomes hot enough to burn your hand even during simple tasks such as browsing social media, or if it becomes excessively hot while charging, this may indicate a damaged battery.
4. A Drop in Battery Health Percentage
For iPhone users in particular, Settings > Battery > Battery Health can provide useful guidance. When this value falls below 80%, the device should be taken to a service centre.
5. A Swollen Screen or Casing (Very Dangerous!)
If your phone’s screen starts separating from the casing or you notice a bulge in the back cover, you should stop using and charging the device immediately. Swollen batteries pose a risk of explosion and fire.
